The term Islam signifies ‘Submission’, emphasizing the idea of surrendering oneself to God’s will. Muslims, as adherents of Islam, demonstrate humility before God and adhere to His guidance. We refer to God as Allah, which stands for ‘One and only God’. Central to our beliefs is the principle of monotheism, emphasising the worship of God alone without associating any partners with Him.

Muslims hold faith in the existence of angels, as well as the concepts of Heaven (Jannah) and Hell (Jahannam). They also believe in the Prophets and the Holy Books. These include the Torah, delivered to Moses (Musa); the Psalms, bestowed upon David (Dawud); and the Bible, revealed to Jesus (Isa) (peace be upon them all). Within Islamic belief, Jesus is regarded as a messenger of God, born miraculously to Mary without a biological father. The last and ultimate messenger, according to Muslims, is the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.  He received the divine revelation of the Holy Quran directly from Allah, conveyed through the archangel Gabriel (Jibreel) (peace be upon him).

And this Quran is such that it could not be composed by any, unless it be revealed from Allah.  It is a confirmation of the revelation made before it, and a detailed exposition of the Book.  Beyond doubt, it is from the Lord of the universe.

Al-Quran 10:37

The Quran stands out as a unique scripture, remaining unchanged for 1400 years, with not a single alteration to its text. Despite being unlettered, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ received revelations from Allah over a span of 23 years and transmitted them to his followers. This oral tradition forms the basis of how Muslims recite and commit the Holy Quran to memory today, meticulously preserving its recitation just as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ instructed.

The Quran serves as a comprehensive guide for humanity, offering invaluable counsel on living ethically and treating others with fairness. It emphasises the importance of women’s rights and stresses the equality of all individuals, irrespective of gender, race, or nationality. Islam, often depicted as a religion of peace, extends beyond any particular group, welcoming people from all walks of life. It’s worth noting that Islam is currently the fastest-growing religion globally.

The Quran contains descriptions of numerous scientific phenomena, ranging from concepts like relativity, quantum mechanics, and the big bang theory, to topics such as black holes, genetics, embryology, modern geology, thermodynamics, and even advancements like lasers and hydrogen fuel cells.

We created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot, and then from a lump of flesh, formed and unformed – that we may show you.

Al-Quran 22:5

Islam acknowledges the universal susceptibility to sin, emphasizing that even Muslims are not exempt. However, the Quran provides reassurance that Allah’s mercy knows no bounds, as there is no sin beyond His forgiveness.

O My Servants who have transgressed against themselves (by sinning), do not despair of the mercy of Allah.  Indeed, Allah forgives all sins.  Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful

Al-Quran 39:53

To attain the path to Heaven, a Muslim adheres to the five pillars of Islam: belief in the oneness of God – Shahada, performing prayers five times daily – Salah, giving charity – Zakaat, fasting during the month of Ramadan – Sawm, and undertaking a pilgrimage to Makkah – Hajj, at least once in their lifetime. Makkah holds significance as the site where Prophet Abraham (Ibrahim) (may peace be upon him) constructed the Khaaba in Saudi Arabia.
